Why is a plane circling over my town?
Usually it is waiting for landing clearance (a holding pattern), training near an airport, or flying a patrol, survey or rescue mission. Click the plane to see its route and operator.
How do I know the plane in the sky is the one on the list?
Compare the direction and the angle above the horizon. A plane at 10 km seen 30° above the horizon is about 17 km away. A fist at arm’s length covers about 10° of sky.
Why do I hear a plane that is not on the list?
Some aircraft – military, small private planes, helicopters – do not broadcast ADS-B or fly outside receiver coverage. Sound from 10 km also arrives about 30 seconds late.
What are the white trails behind planes?
Contrails: water vapour from the engines freezing in the cold air at 8–12 km. In humid air they last long and spread into cirrus clouds.

No. Distance, direction and elevation are calculated by your browser. Your position never reaches our server or our statistics.
How to spot the plane in the sky
For each aircraft we show the direction (e.g. NE – north-east) and the elevation angle above the horizon. 90° is directly overhead; 10–20° is low on the horizon. A clenched fist at arm’s length covers about 10° of sky.
- Contrails usually form above 8 km – look for aircraft at cruising altitude (red and purple on the map).
- Sound lags behind. From 10 km up it takes about 30 seconds to reach you, so you hear the plane where it was a moment ago.
- Outside Poland the data refreshes roughly once a minute, so the list may lag slightly there.
